Pens Select Forward Sam Lafferty in Fourth Round

Day two of the NHL draft has commenced, and the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first selection of this morning came in round four.

Pittsburgh has drafted forward Sam Lafferty in the fourth round (113th overall) out of Deerfield Academy.

Lafferty, 19, is a Pennsylvania native (Hollidaysburg), and is listed as a right wing with a right-handed shot – per the Pens’ Twitter handle.

According to the Pens’ Twitter handle, Lafferty is a lifelong fan of the Penguins, and his favorite player is none other than the captain, Sidney Crosby.

Lafferty will play for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) next season, and then for Brown University in 2015 – per Eliteprospects.com.

In 25 games for Deerfield last season, Lafferty registered 55 points (21G, 34A).
