Pittsburgh Penguins Invite Prospects To Rookie Tournament

Training camp is almost upon us, and the Pittsburgh Penguins have begun inviting prospects.

Well, it’s not for camp, but it is for a rookie tournament.

According to the Pens’ Twitter handle and website, the team has reportedly invited 24 prospects to participate in their three-game rookie tournament against other skaters from the Chicago Blackhawks, Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The mini-tournament will run from Saturday, Sept. 13, to Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Notable players not on the roster: defensemen Derrick Pouliot and Philip Samuelsson, forward Jake Guentzel, and goaltender Eric Hartzell.

Their first outing is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. against the Ottawa Senators. On Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m., they’ll go toe-to-toe with the Chicago Blackhawks. And then finally on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m., they’ll wrap up the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The venue for this event will be the Budweiser Gardens, where the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) play.
