Penguins highly-touted prospect Beau Bennett has been kept out of practice and is listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed lower-body injury.

Bennett is currently playing for the Penguins AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and has posted 24 points (6G, 18 A) in 32 games.

In his first full season since his wrist injury the season before, Bennett was selected to his first AHL All-Star game to represent the Eastern Conference and the WBS Pens.

The 21-year-old Bennett was the Penguins first-round-selection in 2010 (20th overall), and is the first ever California-native to reach the NHL.

Since being introduced to the game, critics have assumed he will eventually be Sidney Crosby’s winger.  With a smooth skating ability and astounding hand-eye coordination, you can see why Bennett is so highly praised.

We’ve yet to see him reach the NHL, but the organization is anxiously awaiting his arrival.

It has been confirmed that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins forward Beau Bennett will play for the Eastern Conference in the AHL All-Star Classic later this month.

Leading the WBS Penguins with 24 points, Bennett was a prime choice for the honor.  The Penguins 2010 first round selection will now represent one of 12 rookies selected to play in the event on Jan. 27-28.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had just sent Bennett back to WBS after he was unable to hold a roster spot at the end of training camp.  The prized winger showed off his skills a couple days ago in the ‘Black and Gold’ scrimmage, where he scored on Marc-Andre Fleury stick-side.

You can acknowledge what the organization sees in him from the re-assignment.

Knowing the type of season he was already having in WBS, the Penguins want him to finish out in the AHL.  After stating that the Pens should consider keeping Bennett at the NHL level, you realize the team has outstanding depth.

The team probably wants to see him build more strength considering his recent wrist injury.  So with that in mind, Bennett now has time to develop his game before he makes the next step.

Both Morrow and Bennett play for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and were expected to make waves in the NHL preseason to prove their worth in the NHL. Morrow has three points in 14 games played for the Penguins while Bennett has 13 points in 18 games. Prior to playing for the WBS Penguins, Morrow played for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL while Bennett played for the University of Denver Pioneers.

Bennett’s return to Twitter campaign has attracted attention on other social media platforms such as Tumblr where many are spearheading efforts to bring him back. And why wouldn’t they want him back? It’s thanks to Bennett that this gold was introduced to the internet after Crosby returned from his concussion:

Especially due to the fact that it was Bennett’s 21st birthday on Tuesday (Happy birthday Beau!) and the world was deprived of what was sure to be Twitter gold then.
