According to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Penguins’ defenseman Kris Letang reportedly had surgery last week to fix an infection that developed in his elbow.

The team, however, is expecting him to be back in game action following the NHL’s christmas break.

Letang reportedly sustained an open wound in the team’s tilt against the New Jersey Devils on Dec. 13, and was a late scratch for the Pens’ matchup with the Detroit Red Wings on Dec. 14, after participating in pregame warm-ups. Yesterday’s contest marked the fifth consecutive game he’s missed.

Through 24 games this season, Letang has compiled 11 points (6G, 5A) and is skating to a disappointing minus-6 rating.
