The Pittsburgh Penguins have reportedly called up goaltender Tomas Vokoun from his conditioning stint in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton – according to the Pens’ Twitter handle.

Vokoun, who was sent down to get in some game-action on Apr. 9, won his first start of the season on Friday, but then failed to come away victorious in his outing Sunday.

Vokoun went 1-1-0 and allowed five goals on 46 shots.

While Jeff Zatkoff has manned the fort behind Marc-Andre Fleury all season, I’m convinced head coach Dan Bylsma will give Vokoun the backup duties for the playoffs, considering it’s likely his last ride in the NHL.

Although you almost sort of feel for Zatkoff, given he’s been there for Pittsburgh all season, his time in the postseason will come. Plus, he’s not going anywhere, and recognizing the Pens’ goalies haven’t faired so well in the playoffs over recent seasons, Zatkoff very well could draw a start anyway.

Nothing’s been confirmed yet, but consider Vokoun first in line to backstop Fleury.
