5. Speaking of goal-scorers, meet Patric Hornqvist.

The Penguins’ most significant offseason addition, Patric Hornqvist, continues to prove he is the best decision the team made in a long time as he continues to pot goals left, right, and centre.

Hornqvist’s 9 goals currently lead the Penguins, and in fact, have him ranked 5th in the league through the first part of the season.

The Swedish sniper isn’t just playing well for Pittsburgh, he’s keeping pace with the likes of Corey Perry, Rick Nash, Tyler Seguin, and Steven Stamkos – who all have only one or two more goals than Hornqvist, and who, in most cases, have had an extra game or two to get them.

Pittsburgh knew Hornqvist was going to get a decent bunch of goals when he came to town, but the former Predator has surely surpassed expectations so far, gelling instantly with linemates Crosby and Kunitz en route to scoring in over half of the team’s games thus far.

Much like Kunitz, Hornqvist is currently on pace to shatter his previous highest goals-total (he’s trending towards 50+ at the moment) and while that is a lofty total to reach, nothing is out of the question when you play on a line with Sidney Crosby and on a powerplay that seems to score almost every time they get on the ice.

If he simply keeps doing what he’s done his whole career, Hornqvist is certain to be thrust further into the spotlight as the season wears on.
