David Perron

The number 72 is known for two things in Pittsburgh. It’s Patric Hornqvist‘s number and David Perron’s fantasy ranking among left-wings according to Yahoo.

Perron had 19 points in 38 games-played with the dismal offense of the Edmonton Oilers before joining the Pens. He then potted 15 points in 23 games after being traded to Pittsburgh. Most of those points came alongside Sidney Crosby. While he dropped off significantly in production down the stretch, keep in mind that it was later released that Perron was playing with a rib injury.

With the addition of Phil Kessel in Pittsburgh, it’s tough to gauge how things will shake out. Head Coach Mike Johnston stated that if the season would start today, Kessel would play alongside Crosby. Perron may not be a fit with those two and could likely end up with Evgeni Malkin in that scenario. And I ask this, does it really matter either way?

Perron produced similarly with both centers last season, though his time with Malkin was limited. But, to place a player with this kind of potential at number 72 among left-wingers is absurd. He’ll be an extremely valuable mid-round pickup. He’s also listed with multiple positions on most platforms, so he can be slotted into either right-wing or left-wing.
