Being the superstar of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby had a tremendous season in 2016-17.

Scoring 44 goals on the season, Sidney Crosby captured the Maurice Richard Rocket Trophy as the league’s goal scoring leader. He was sensational as he always is and many of his goals were absolute beauty’s.

Continuing my series on the top goals from this past season by player, here are my personal choices for Sidney Crosby’s top five goals of the 2016-17 season.

Credits to All NHL Goals on YouTube who put together a video of all 44 goals Crosby scored this season for our viewing pleasure.

5) January 22, 2017 Vs. Boston Bruins

Starting off the list is a beautiful goal to watch. Crosby just dekes his way around Zane McIntyre and slips it into the back of the net. A really nice goal overall.

4) December 10, 2016 Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

In this play, Crosby plants himself in front of the net, ready to generate a scoring chance. When the puck comes to him he directs it into the net while he loses balance and falls down.

3) December 1, 2016 Vs. Dallas Stars

This one is just an incredible play that really shows how much skill Crosby possesses. After one attempt to try and put the puck in from behind the net, Crosby is able to whack the puck from within midair and past goaltender Antti Niemi.

2) March 31, 2017 Vs. New York Rangers

This one is pretty crazy to watch. Crosby takes the puck from behind the net to the goal line and banks his shot off Henrik Lundqvist’s head and in. Quite creative if you’d ask me.

1) March 21, 2017 Vs. Buffalo Sabres

Topping off the list is this candidate for goal of the year from ANY player.

Sidney Crosby is phenomenal and we all know that. He is arguably the greatest player in the game who can play the game with ease like no other. He shows that quite clearly in this play.

Crosby uses his amazing speed to flawlessly split through not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Sabres defenders. Once through, one would expect him to let off a backhander or even a wrister. But no, Crosby dazzles everyone by taking a one-handed shot that seamlessly goes over Robin Lehner and into the net. Absolutely astonishing. He makes this game look easy.
