The 2017-18 NHL season is right around the corner, and there are many games Pittsburgh Penguins fans should keep their eyes on especially.

Ever since the 2017-18 Pittsburgh Penguins schedule was released, fans have had an opportunity to see which games they would like to attend. Obviously, some games seem more attractive due to rivalries, matchups, occasions or special events taking place.

Today, let’s look at five games this season that you should pay particular attention to.

October 11: Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals

Well you already knew this was going to be on the list. Our storied rivalry with the Washington Capitals has always been cherished, especially with the Crosby vs. Ovechkin rivalry still brewing.

It will be nice to pay attention to this season’s matchups with the Caps due to the fact that we yet again eliminated them from the playoffs last season. The Capitals have lost some players and are now visibly less skilled. It will be interesting to see how they do against us.

October 24: Edmonton Oilers at Pittsburgh Penguins

Now this one’s special for obvious reasons. After last season, it seems a number of rankings, such as The Hockey News and even EA Sports’ NHL 18 considers Connor McDavid to be the world’s best player, knocking Sidney Crosby to number two.

Well this game will be their first matchup of the season, and it’s here at home. Be sure to watch the two best players in the game play it out, and hopefully we will see Crosby rightfully take back his throne.

NASHVILLE, TN – JUNE 11: Brian Dumoulin

November 11: Pittsburgh Penguins at Nashville Predators

This one is an obvious choice even though the matchup held no significance in years past. Why? Because it’s a rematch of the Stanley Cup Finals.

We obviously came out on top in the seven game series, capturing our second straight Stanley Cup. The Predators are looking hungrier than ever, even stealing away Nick Bonino from us as a free agent and leaving us without a third-line centre.

It will definitely be interesting to see who comes out on top here.

December 14: Pittsburgh Penguins at Vegas Golden Knights

Our first trip to Las Vegas will be in December!

The new Las Vegas Golden Knights join the NHL as the 31st team in the league. In an exciting city like Las Vegas, it’ll be interesting to see how this new team does.

And of course, the team was put together through their expansion draft where they chose one player from each team. Out of all players they chose, the former Penguin is most likely the most important. That’s right, it’ll be our first time seeing Marc-Andre Fleury play against the Penguins, the team he has been a part of since 2003.

February 6: Vegas Golden Knights at Pittsburgh Penguins

Yes, two games against the Golden Knights are significant. But this one is more important. Why?

Because it’ll be Marc-Andre Fleury’s first game in Pittsburgh not in a Penguins jersey. You already know this game is going to be full of emotions. Happy, sad, tears, smiles, we’re going to see it all. And you already know the Penguins will have a tribute ready for his14 years in Pittsburgh. This one will be a special game.
