The NHL preseason has officially started for the Pittsburgh Penguins, which means the regular season is just around the corner.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a long offseason where a lot has happened. We gained players and we lost players. We’ll be gunning for that three-peat this season and I couldn’t be more excited!

One player that I’ve been wanting to talk about for a while now has been Ryan Reaves. Reaves was traded to the Penguins from the St. Louis Blues at the draft and honestly didn’t spark enough discussion.

Well I’m here to say that his arrival is one thing I’m most excited to watch this season. Why?

The Protecter

As a team last season, we were bashed and bruised around quite easily by other teams. We were plagued by injuries and many of our key players (thank goodness not many of our stars) found themselves out of the lineup at one point or another.

Last season, I remember telling myself, “Man, the Penguins really gotta toughen up. Someone’s gotta protect us out here.” And I know many other fans were thinking this as well.

Well we sure know that GM Jim Rutherford was thinking the same thing, because he went out and got us Ryan Reaves, a real nitty gritty tough guy who will do the job great.

He’s going to be our star protector. He’s going to keep the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, even Jake Guentzel safer. But most of all, he’s going to do it while playing some effective hockey, I hope.

He’s Got it in him

He’s not a bad player. Just looking at his stat line, he has been impactful during his time in St. Louis.

Now I don’t know how he’s going to fit in on our roster exactly. But I am excited to see what happens. And you should be too.
