3) Nico Hischier, New Jersey Devils

After a surprising jump to the 1st overall pick in the 2017 draft, the Devils selected Hischier with the hopes that the one-two punch of Taylor Hall and him could rival other strong duos in the division like Crosby-Malkin and Backstrom-Kuznetsov.

Although Hischier has played both wing and center in his career, it looks like the Devils will be staring the season with Hischier on the second line centering newly acquired wingers Drew Stafford and Marcus Johansson, while Pavel Zacha takes the top line center role. It’s not a stretch in any year to say the number one overall draft pick is a player worth watching, but Nico Hischier had a strong preseason and the Devils look ready to break out at any moment.
