Pittsburgh Penguins: These Games are Too Close for Comfort

The Pittsburgh Penguins stole a win from the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, but it was not an easy win at all.

The Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t struggling, but they’re not flying through their games either. We just beat the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-3. That’s not exactly a comfortable win. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup last season and now there’s all the expectations on them to soar through the standings like these games are nothing.

As much as I wish we could soar through the standings, I know that it’s harder than that. We’re going to have difficulties and we won’t win em all. I know that. But with that said, I’m also not satisfied with how we’ve been playing.

Defence First

We can score goals, sure, but our defence needs to be more consistent. Our last three goals have all been one goal games. That’s not exactly a dominant performance and we want to be a dominating team.

These games have been way too close for comfort and the team needs to work on this. Let’s face it, we got blown out by Chicago one game with a score of 10-1 and every other game except one has seen us let in at least three goals. That one shutout against Nashville is obviously an outlier, but it shows that we have work to do with our defensive issues.

Offence

I don’t think we need to address offence much. We’ve been able to score (except against Chicago…). I just really feel like these close games aren’t cutting it defensively.

If we need to fix our offence, I just want to see our big guys getting on the scoreboard more. Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Guentzel. They’re all doing great right now. But we need them to help us run away with games like we have in the past.
