The Pittsburgh Penguins lost 4-2 to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday to conclude their western Canada road trip.

It was a tough set of games over the span of a week for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Four games out west against the four western Canadian teams. We played hard but only one won of them. What went wrong though?

Recap

The Penguins started the trip off in Winnipeg against the Jets on Sunday. Coming off a hot week with a couple of wins, the Penguins were hoping to keep it rolling. The Jets had different plans in mind though.

The Jets embarassed the Penguins at home, defeating us by a score of 7-1. Our defence and offence just were not clicking and we ended up suffering on both ends of the ice.

Fortunately we were able to pick things up against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. It was the Crosby vs. McDavid rematch and things just went our way. We ended up defeating Edmonton by a score of 3-2.

Here’s where things really took a turn. Heading into Calgary, the Pens were hoping to keep the ball rolling. But the game ultimately ended with the Flames scoring in overtime to win 2-1.

The Vancouver Canucks played well on Saturday night, allowing us to score just two goals on them. The Canucks scored four goals though, handing us the L for the night.

What Needs to Change?

There are a number of things that aren’t clicking for us. Our offence wasn’t there some nights, but I really think it’s a major concern right now. In f games, we were only able to score seven goals. With the talent we have up front, we could score more.

Defence is the biggest hole in our lineup. We need to start clicking better or things are just going to get worse. We allowed 15 goals in four games. That’s terrible. We need to get things going here.
