The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to head to Carolina tomorrow to face the Hurricanes in a crucial game.

After stealing an extra point from their divisional rival Columbus Blue Jackets, the Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves slowly inching back up the standings.

Next up are the Carolina Hurricanes, who are currently on a three game winning streak. This game is especially important for the Penguins, let’s take a look at why.

The Division is So Close

Tomorrow’s game is mainly important because of how the Metropolitan Division has shaped up to be right now. As of Thursday, the Hurricanes sit sixth in the division while the Penguins sit seventh. They are both tied in points at 41 and they both sit seven points out of the third spot in the division.

On top of this, they are both only four points out of securing a wild card spot in the East, both of which are taken up by divisional rivals the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders.

Winning this game against the Hurricanes can put the Penguins a whole two points ahead of them and closer to their goal to secure a playoff spot. If the Penguins lose, we’ll just be that much farther away and Carolina will secure a greater lead over us, thus making it harder for us to rise in the standings.

The Canes Have Been Hot

The Hurricanes have won three straight games as of late but that has to stop somewhere. Just last week, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Hurricanes by a score of 8-1. They have flaws and we can beat them, we just have to figure them out.

Let’s not let the fact that they’ve been hot effect our game. We’ve won three out of our last five games and we still have a good chance at defeating the Hurricanes. Let’s get it done here.
