The Pittsburgh Penguins head to San Jose to face the Sharks on Saturday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to defeat the Sharks’ state rival Los Angeles Kings by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. We are revving our engines now nearing the halfway point of the season. We need to continue our success if we want to climb the standings.

So next up we have the Sharks. Here are three keys we should follow to secure a victory.

1) Get a Lot of Shots on Net

As we saw on Thursday with Patric Hornqvist’s goal, even the strangest shots have a chance at going in. We need to increase our chances and keep piling shots on. It’s our best bet.

2) Malkin Needs to Keep it Up

Out of all our players right now, nobody has been hotter than Evgeni Malkin. In his last 11 games, he has scored nine goals and seven assists for a total of 16 points.

He needs to keep playing at this level and really help push this team forward. This season has been all about Phil Kessel and Sidney Crosby, but now it’s finally Evgeni Malkin’s time to step back in the spotlight and show everyone just how big of a superstar he is again.

3) I Would Play Daniel Sprong

Daniel Sprong was a healthy scratch in Thursday’s game. I know, I know. He’s young and still just a call-up, he will progress over time. But from what we’ve seen so far, he can tear it up in his own right as well.

I would play him and give us that extra support on offence. He’s got the skills and it would only help boost his confidence. But then again, I’m not an NHL coach.
