The Pittsburgh Penguins returned from the All-Star break going on a two game winning streak.
The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday and the Washington Capitals by a score of 7-4 on Friday night. Now, the Penguins get set to face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night in what will surely be a thrilling matchup.
Pittsburgh Penguins
With this game being crucial for both teams, let’s take a look at some of the keys to a Penguins victory.
1) Don’t Be Phased By New Jersey’s Winning Streak
The Devils have also won their last two games directly after the All-Star break. Their last game was Thursday, giving them an extra day of rest over the Penguins.
Both teams may be hot, but this shouldn’t phase us. We have been the better offensive team as of late and we can get it done again tonight. Someone’s winning streak has to end tonight.
2) Goaltending Can Improve
Goaltending has been the story of the season. Matt Murray has been playing fair but not quite up to his potential. If we want to win this game, we’ll need to toughen up defensively, that includes in net.
I know I put this as a key to every game, but until we stop having trouble, it’ll be a crucial factor.
3) Get the Puck to the Big Three
The big three obviously being Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin. The three have been tearing it up lately, combining for 24 points in just the last three games all together. They have been leading this team in all offensive aspects this year and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.
Obviously our support players have to come through too, but these three have definitely been making a huge impact on our team. They are clutch and we have to continue to get the puck to them while they’re on a hot streak.
