PITTSBURGH, PA - DECEMBER 09: Auston Matthews

The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to face the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a young and upcoming team. They’ll surely be in the playoffs and the Pittsburgh Penguins need to be ready for what they throw at us. It’s a crucial time in the season and every win is important. We need to make sure we bring our best game against these guys.

As we prepare for the game, here are three keys to a Penguins victory against Toronto.

1) No Auston Matthews

The Leafs are missing their best player in Auston Matthews once again tonight. The Penguins are doing good on the injury front and still have our stars healthy. This isn’t a key to the game per say, but it definitely helps that we have an advantage already in our line up. We have to take advantage of this and really dominate Toronto,

2) Toronto’s Rested, Let’s Push Harder

We need to play extra hard tonight. Toronto hasn’t played since Monday. They are well rested and will surely be speeding down the ends of the ice. We need to adapt to this and bring it extra hard tonight. We’ve had a three day break, hopefully it’s enough to get back out there swinging.

3) Get That Defence Up.

The Leafs are still a highly offensive team even without Auston Matthews. In fact, their most productive players as of late have included Mitch Marner, Nazem Kadri and Patrick Marleau. They are still quite deep and we need to watch out for that. Let’s play defensively tonight and shut them down.
