Pittsburgh Penguins: Taking Game 3 Over the Flyers

The Pittsburgh Penguins fought hard on Sunday, taking game 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 5-1.

The Pittsburgh Penguins headed into game 3 of the first round in Philadelphia knowing they weren’t going to go down 2-1. The Penguins came to win and that’s exactly how they played, pulling out a 5-1 win over the Flyers. It was a hard fought game through and through, so here are your highlights.

First Period

The game started out just like every game should start, high-flying and hard-hitting. Less than 2 minutes into the game, Flyers rookie Nolan Patrick came soaring in on a breakaway, but couldn’t stop the quick hand of Matt Murray.

After a flurry of saves from both goalies in the opening frame, Sidney Crosby was able to get the puck past _ off a turnover just after 10 minutes in the first. 1-0 Penguins!

The period would end with the Penguins up 1-0 and you have to think the boys were hungry as ever for that win.

Second Period

Shortly into the second period, some pretty passing plays by the Penguins on the powerplay allowed Derick Brassard to get the Penguins on the board yet again. 2-0 Penguins.

Less than five minutes later the Flyers gave up a 4-on-3 powerplay for the Penguins, and you know we made them pay. Some more pretty passing from the boys set up Evgeni Malkin for a clear shot into the back of the net.

Immediately after though, the Penguins were able to take the puck right off the face off where Brian Dumoulin sent a pretty wrister soaring past Elliot. 4-0 Penguins. This goal tied the record for quickest two goals in a playoff game with just five seconds between the two.

The Flyers would score one more goal to close out the period, but the damage had already been done. The Penguins were confident in this one.

Third Period

Justin Schultz would score one more to solidify the win, but that was it. The Penguins shut the door and took the W. With a great effort by the team all-around, we’ll head to Philadelphia for game 4 on Wednesday.
