In this series, we will look at this Pittsburgh Penguins season and recap the top 5 victories for them over the course of this season.

For Pittsburgh Penguins fans everywhere, it is tough having to watch these playoffs without seeing the black and gold out on the ice. With this in mind, we here at PensLabyrinth thought it might be nice to take a look back at the five best victories for the Penguins over the course of this season, and maybe make things a little less gloomy.

At number five on the list, we are taking a look at the Penguins victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on December 22nd, a game that was part of a eight game win streak for Pittsburgh, and probably their best stretch of the entire season. This one was big for many reasons, and it starts with the play that we got to see from Matt Murray.

Murray had come back from injury just one week prior to this contest, and while he had put up two solid performances in that time frame, people were still unsure if he was back to his full abilities and talent level. Well, this game certainly got rid of all the doubt, as Murray earned the shutout and made 39 saves in the victory over Carolina.

It was also a game that showed just how talented the first line of the Pittsburgh Penguins is and was. As we talked about the day after this game, Crosby and Guentzel were putting on a clinic for the fans in Charlotte, as Sid dished out three assists, two of which led to goals by his linemate Jake Guentzel.

This was one of those games where the Penguins were just unstoppable, they were executing in every facet of the game. It encompassed just how special this team could be when things were clicking, and that’s why it makes our list at number 5 for best wins of this season.
