The Pittsburgh Penguins have now entered the second half of the NHL season. They find themselves in a battle with the Capitals, Islanders and Panthers, just to make the #2 Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Penguins know they must play hard in every game from here on, or they will be golfing come April. That said, The Pens brought some inspired, motivated, hard-hitting play, against the Avs on Feb07.2023.

It appears the Jeff Carter hit to Cale Makar’s head, in the third period of that game, was somewhat controversial. The fact of the matter is, there was No Penalty on the play and the Ref was looking right at it.
Does anyone remember NYR-Trouba’s Chicken Wing hit on Crosby, in the playoffs last year? No Penalty on the play and the Ref was looking right at it.
Authors Note: I’m a firm believer that players are accountable for their actions and must play with respect at all times. I do not think Jeff Carter is a dirty player. This hit however, might have crossed the line. I do hope Makar will be ok. He is a pure talent and great for the game.
At this point in time, I’m not sure if the NHL will review this hit or institute subsequent disciplinary action on Jeff Carter. It will be, what it will be.

As I mentioned earlier, I think all players are accountable for their actions. It is a difficult ask for players to walk the fine line between playing hard or playing dirty.
The reality is, all players need to walk on the line of respect, for their opponent and for one another.
Get ready Pens Fans, and hold on tight, we are in for an interesting ride, from here on.
