With a new season approaching, it is always interesting to watch how certain players bounce back from how they did in the previous season. For Tristan Jarry, he did not have a great year in 2024. He started the year off not good, was sent down to Wilkes-Barre Scranton to figure it out, and then came back and played well for a few games and then played bad again at the end of the year.
For Jarry in 2025, he really needs to prove that he belongs on the team. He cannot keep doing the inconsistency where he plays good sometimes and then plays bad sometimes and keeps rotating.
Jarry especially needs to prove to new coach Dan Muse and his coaching staff that he belongs because there are young goalies behind him awaiting their chance. The Penguins traded Jarry's backup Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks in the offseason, furthering that Jarry will be the starter.
But they also went out and acquired young goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks in an offseason trade. But the Penguins also have youngsters Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov waiting their full time NHL chances in the upcoming years.
So Jarry needs to be careful with how he starts the year and also needs to make sure he does not go back and forth with the inconsistent play like he did in the 2024 season. Because if Jarry falters again early, he could easily lose his net to Silovs who is looking to make his mark after a stellar AHL playoff run in 2024 where his team won the Calder Cup.
Silovs also played a lot of games for the Canucks late in the 2023 season as starter Thatcher Demko was hurt at a time. Silovs even went as far as being the reason the Canucks defeated the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2023-24 season. Silovs is a bit of a question mark for Muse and his staff, but he is definitely worth a look.
But with Jarry, he needs to make sure he is ready if he gets chances in the preseason and he needs to be ready as soon as the regular season starts. His first chance comes against the New York Rangers and former head coach Mike Sullivan on the road on October 7 at Madison Square Garden.
