A remarkable feat: Crosby breaks a Gretzky record in Buffalo

Sidney Crosby has broken Wayne Gretzky's record of 19 straight point-per-game seasons as his goal in Thursday's game against the Buffalo Sabres gave him 20 straight point-per-game seasons in his outstanding career.

The Penguins suffered a horrible loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday in a 7-3 defeat, but the only thing that truly mattered was Crosby's goal and lone point of the game.

He took a sweet pass in front of the net and buried it to cut the Sabres lead to 2-1, and that goal gave Crosby 80 points on the season and it also gave him the record for 20 straight point-per-game seasons over Wayne Gretzky who previously had the record with 19 straight seasons.

Crosby is truly one-of-one and is a serious lock to the Hall-of-Fame when he decides to finally hang up the skates and call it a career.

Penguins will miss the playoffs for a third straight season but Crosby's record was always more important

Yes it is not fun as a Penguins fan to see the team miss the playoffs for a third straight season, especially when you have one of the best players the game has ever seen, on your team.

But Penguins fans knew that the team was not built to win, besides, Crosby breaking the seasons point-per-game record was always something that was going to be way more accomplishable than making the playoffs this season.

The average fan wants to see Crosby make another run at the playoffs, but for the Penguins and their fans, his record was always the better goal in sight.

Most fans preferred Crosby to get the record at home on Sunday but getting it now will suffice

It can not be stated more than it already has, that Crosby should have waited till Sunday's home game against the Ottawa Senators to break Gretzky's record.

But knowing Crosby and the player and person that he is, there was going to be no stopping him if he wanted to ger the record against the Sabres.

Sure it sucked that the Penguins got their butts handed to them by a bottom feeder in the Sabres and Crosby could not truly celebrate his milestone, but it is still an amazing accomplishment nonetheless.
