When the Penguins signed winger Anthony Beauvillier to his one-year deal in the offseason, fans could tell it was just depth and someone they could end up flipping for picks later at the trade deadline. And it seems that route with him is going as well as planned so far.
So far this season, Beauvillier through 19 games with the Penguins, has 6 goals and 1 assist to total 7 points. Beauvillier had 5 goals in 60 games all year last season. That is a major step up and if Beauvillier continues to score, it only boosts the kind of return that GM Kyle Dubas can get for him.
The Funky Goal he scored in Friday's game against the Blue Jackets
Beauvillier scored quite the funky goal in Friday's loss to the Blue Jackets. The puck was knocked up in the air with help from Crosby, and as it came back down, Beauvillier knocked it into the net.
He beat Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins and suddenly the Penguins only trailed 2-1 in the game after Beauvillier's 6th goal of the year.
This one was quite a weird one, but good hand-eye coordination by Crosby and Beauvillier to track this puck down and put it to the back of the net.
Beauvillier has more success on the Crosby line than anywhere else
Beauvillier has found a nice home on Crosby's line as when he produces, it's usually because he is playing with the captain and winger Rickard Rakell. Crosby has not been able to find a consistent left winger since they shipped Jake Guentzel out of town last trade deadline.
But from the looks of it so far this season, he has found a pretty consistent one in Anthony Beauvillier and he seems to produce well right next to the legendary captain of the team. As in the second game of the season against the Detroit Red Wings, Beauvillier scored twice while on the Crosby line.
Dubas and fans really hope Beauvillier continues to pad the scoresheet as they hope to look for a return that includes at least a fourth round-pick at the upcoming trade deadline later this season.
