Penguins Hockey is back and in absolute stunning fashion, Dan Muse continues to turn heads in good ways as he told media ahead of tonight's opening season contest against the New York Rangers, that Arturs Silovs has won the number one goalie position and will be between the pipes for the Penguins as a starter moving forward.

Silovs coming off an incredible eye opening year in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks, helping them to a Calder Cup and won Calder Cup MVP. He also carried the Vancouver Canucks in 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, leading them just two goals away to an almost Western Conference Finals appearence.

Dan Muse spoke on what fueled his decision to make Silovs the starter as the Penguins head into a season where it's playoffs or tank for Gavin McKenna.

" "We looked at a lot of things. We are going to be looking for both guys to be getting in there at this early part of the season. So, Tristan will be getting an opportunity here early on, for sure. We feel Silovs had a good camp, and that was a decision that we made.""

Penguins fans fully were in belief that Tristan Jarry was set to be the Penguins starter. After the preseason where his struggles continued, in the preseason finale he let up three goals in three minutes allowing buffalo to take over the game before he was swapped out and the Penguins came back to win in overtime.

Muse will look to rely on both Arturs Silovs and Tristan Jarry early in the season with Joel Blomqvist on the shelf (week to week). As of right now, Sergei Murashov is the Penguins number three goalie on the depth chart with Blomqvist sidelined. If Jarry does flounder again, you never know if we maybe see Murashov at some point soon.

Silovs will look to fein off Mike Sullivan's New York Rangers squad who has taken a hit in the depth department but has some new young finesse to the club. The Penguins will need weather off the early onslaught and allow Silovs to do his job so he can give them a chance to claim an opening night victory.

The Penguins take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden at 8:00 p.m. EST and will be Nationally Televised on ESPN as apart of the triple header opening night feature to kick off the 2025-26 NHL Season.
