OTTAWA-- A prospect that has not been talked about that now is would be Penguins prospect Carter Sanderson who was the 169th pick in the 2025 NHL Draft by Kyle Dubas and Wes Clark.

Sanderson was invited this past late summer to participate in the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase and showed off in what gave him a good shot to make the Team USA roster for the yearly winter junior showcase for the NHL's top prospects and soon to be prospects.

Sanderson last season captained the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks to a USHL Clark Cup. This year he made the transition to the CHL and is playing on the same team Ben Kindel and Tanner Howe played with before making the jump to professional hockey, in the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL (Western Hockey League). His start to the season has turned some eyes of Penguins fans, scouts and staff and the Team USA selection crew for the WJC.

As of October 27, Sanderson has already collected 21 points in 11 games with 15 goals and six assists. He is on pace for 90 goals, 36 assists which would come to 126 points in right around the 65-66 games played regular season margin. This is based off the schedule, games in a season and games remaining.

Wes Clark and Kyle Dubas ability to find these diamond in the rough players like the 19 year old, San Diego native is just a reason why the scouting team has been doing great work for the Penguins organization by the instruction of both Clark and Dubas.

Carter's size allows for him to not only be a pure goal scorer, but a physical threat on both sides of the ice with his 6"2 frame that can dominate in the current style of hockey being played around not only junior hockey and college hockey but in the NHL as well. Scouts continue to rave over his physical presence and how it can be rampant if he has limited opportunities on the ice which can easily spark a team back into any hockey game.

There is still a lot of what if's with Sanderson as the season is still new and there is a whopping amount of hockey still yet to be played and Carter's hands will be full with the WHL season and possibly the WJC in the late month of December into the new year.
