Despite the logjam in forwards that Pittsburgh has right now, there is one forward still available that can make an impact if he were given a chance in the Penguins system. Eeli Tolvanen has interest from teams and that's a given. Pittsburgh should be all over the finish forward.
Tolvanen just came off a two year deal with Seattle which was just shy of three and a half million dollars per season. He more than likely will be getting less for his liking due to his down year last year.
The 27 year old forward in his three seasons with Seattle after being put on waivers by Nashville in 2022, has put up at least 35 points or more in those three seasons with Seattle. This past season he had 36P in 78GP which was a point more then his season prior where he put up his first 20 goal season of his career with 23.
Why should Pittsburgh sign Tolvanen?
A great middle six forward that has skill, potential still yet to be fully unleashed and it screams Dan Muse revival all over it. His hands and shot are part of his game where he thrives the most, Tolvanen is a pure sniper and the Penguins need to replicate the goal scoring production they were able to have last season which got them back to the post season.
Where does Tolvanen fit in the Penguins lineup?
Running a third line of Tolvanen - Kindel - Kuzmenko/Robertson would be absolutely brilliant and gives a third line everything you can ask for in today's modern National Hockey League. It has a mix of skill, speed, goal scoring potential and depth. All four of those guys listed can move up and down the lineup and insulate any line which gives flexibility for Dan Muse.
What could a contract look like for the finish forward?
A contract for him could view in the one or two year deal range with a cap hit of $3,200,000 to $3,500,000 AAV range which is more than possible with the Penguins remaining cap space.
If he were to make it to a PTO (Professional Tryout) basis, you offer him that PTO in a heartbeat and sneak a deal in before the season.
