It did not take long for the Penguins to sign one of their three first-round picks to his first NHL contract. 11th overall pick Benjamin Kindel inked his three-year deal with the Penguins and is officially a member of the team.

Penguins fans will love watching Kindel develop as it should be almost certain that he is going to go back to the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen for another year in the junior leagues. There is no need to rush a prospect taken outside of the top 10 and he will need all the development that he can get.

Penguins fans are going to love the Kindel pick

When it was finally the Penguins turn with the 11th pick in the first round of this year's NHL Draft, every fan was expecting Kyle Dubas to take either Victor Eklund or Kashawn Aitcheson.

But that was not the route that Dubas went and he took the Calgary Hitmen winger Ben Kindel and shocked some executives and fans as Kindel was projected to go later in the first round.

But Kindel was Dubas' selection at pick 11 and Penguins fans are going to love him as he develops and gets better as the years go on. He is a hard worker, play driver, and has a lethal shot.

Don't look into it much but Kindel looked good at development camp

The Penguins held their annual prospect development camp this past weekend and Kindel was actually one of the standouts of the few days get-together.

He looked all the part of a first-round pick and made Dubas look smart for taking him, but with it being a few-day thing and there not being many high-profile players there, it is not something to look too much into.

It would be better to keep an eye on Kindel at the prospects challenge in Buffalo in September right before the preseason gets underway.
