Mackie Samoskevich (F) - Florida Panthers

Samoskevich seems like a very easy option in terms of offer sheeting or trading for in terms of RFA's that will be available come July 1. Winning a Stanley Cup with the Panthers in 2025 was a massive accolade to kick off his young NHL career. The 23 year old is looking to more than likely acquire a bridge deal with a team before cashing on his big ticket contract in a couple years time. Mackie has an edge in his game that fits Dan Muse and the system he runs and expects out of his young players. He could immediately slot in on the third line with Ben Kindel and can play both centre and right wing, it helps in terms of lineup fluctuation when having to adjust. Mackie manages space exceptionally well on both sides of the ice, he constantly is looking for the right positions of his teammates and opponents alike. He always tries to aim to have that hop in his skating that allows him to be a speedy winger. He is coming off a contract of $775,000.

Pavel Dorofeyev (F) - Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knight pure young sniper is a target that will be looking to cash in on a massive payday and the Golden Knights will be projected to not be able to pay Dorofeyev what he wants with the team being cap strapped. Dorofeyev is having a career year in every category with 37G and 27A. He also is having a monster playoff run as Vegas is heading to the conference finals. Dorofeyev has nine goals in just 12GP in the playoffs and is almost a point per game player. He fits the Penguins needs badly and should be looked at for a trade if the Knights do not retain him. Dorofeyev screams Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.

Mavrik Bourque (F) - Dallas Stars

The Dallas cap situation will probably see Jason Robertson be extended over Mavrik Bourque and forcing Dallas hand to move him in order to sign Robertson. Kyle Dubas should be all over Jim Nill for the speedy forward that has been nothing but consistent since making the jump to the NHL. Bourque has really high hockey IQ. He is the type of player where he can make something out of nothing, he makes plays that not very many others can see on the ice. Bourque is very effective at putting the puck at the proper space so he can protect the puck. He’s good at drawing defenders to him. The 24 year old will be looking to cash in on his first of many 20 goal seasons. In terms of why the Penguins should acquire him, well it comes down to the exact plan Kyle Dubas has of acquiring young high end talent and Bourque fits right into that category where he will look to peak even more and that can be with the Penguins. He could thrive with the likes of Chinakhov, Kindel and Crosby.

Cole Perfetti (F) - Winnipeg Jets

Cole Perfetti will be heading into his sixth season in the NHL and a change of scenery is very needed for him and his career as he still hasn't fully made the breakout he should be making. Pittsburgh could be just the right place for him and his playoff styled game that could go a long way for the team and Dan Muse. He is coming off just a 32 point season in 68GP which is close to a season worst but has some much upside in a new environment and new system. He is able to play both wings and also has the ability to move up and down the lineup. He is more of a trade candidate then offer sheet and is more than acquirable with the assets the Penguins have.

Olen Zellweger (D) - Anaheim Ducks

Zellweger is unhappy with his ice-time and role in Anaheim and Pittsburgh is a perfect place for him to land. He immediately has a big role in the top four pairings and will fill a massive gap in the left side of the defense that this team has had since Mike Matheson was traded. What makes Zellweger so valuable is his mobility, the biggest selling point for him and Kyle Dubas has to be his explosiveness to break up and out attacks in the neutral zone, join the rush and be not just a defensive machine but an offensive threat on both sides of the ice. If I'm Kyle Dubas I would be dialing the Anaheim phone and trying to make a deal. Anaheim and Pittsburgh have been close trade partners, that could be something to keep an eye on.

There is obviously always a chance to acquire any player available but these are five realistic players that could be acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
