On Saturday afternoon, the Penguins announced that they recalled goalie Tristan Jarry from his conditioning stint with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins since the two-week period was up. But that does not mean goalie Joel Blomqvist should be sent back as a result.
Joel Blomqvist has earned more playing time with the Penguins
Sure, you could say that Blomqvist needs to go back down to the AHL so he is guaranteed more starts and is not guaranteed more here with Jarry being back. But Blomqvist has done more than earn more starts despite it now being a three goalie rotation for the Penguins.
It would be a major slap to the face if the Penguins were to send Blomqvist back down and start Jarry versus the Dallas Stars on Monday night. Blomqvist was absolutely spectacular in Friday's game against the Capitals and proved he belongs.
Jarry should honestly be put in the press box and scratched for the rest of the season
Jarry was sent to the AHL over a two-week time period to find his game again and see if he could put it back together when he was done in said two weeks. Jarry finished his stint in a losing effort to the Leigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers affiliate) by allowing 5 goals, 4 in a 10 minute span in the second period, in a 5-3 loss.
Despite that game on Friday, Jarry had been spectacular, and ended up finishing with a 4-1 record in 5 games for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
But that does not at all mean he should start another game for the big club. Jarry honestly is a waste of cap space and should be in the press box for the rest of the season.
There is no need for Jarry to play another game for the Penguins and the extension that GM Kyle Dubas signed him to in the previous offseason, was a massive mistake.
If the Penguins are serious about winning games, Blomqvist should stay up and still split the net with backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic.
