The Penguins have been needing Michael Bunting to find his game for a while now. They were looking for him to be the player that they acquired in the Jake Guentzel trade last season. It really took him a bit but it seems he has figured it out and is back to being a goal-scoring net-front threat again.
In his last 3 games, he has scored 4 goals and picked up an assist, which that is some real good production that the Penguins have loved to see. He has picked up powerplay goals in back-to-back games and his latest helped Crosby break the Penguins assist record.
Bunting and Malkin should never be broken up again
Bunting and Malkin have been playing on a line and on the powerplay together ever since Bunting arrived in the Steel City last season. They should not ever be broken up again because they just have this insane chemistry together.
Bunting and Malkin are like when Crosby had his rare injuries in the past few seasons and Guentzel and Rust would play with Malkin and have that chemistry with the Russian center.
There is just something about Bunting and Malkin playing together, that the Penguins like, and it is a combination that needs to stay together as the season goes on.
Bunting contributing on the stats sheet helps take pressure off the Crosby line
Usually, a lot of the Penguins goals or points like to come from the Crosby line. But with people like Bunting scoring goals, it takes a lot of pressure off of Rakell Crosby and Rust.
Bunting being up to 11 goals on the season, is really impactful for the team because it means the team is not as top-heavy as originally thought. Plus Bunting is on fire and as noted before, has goals in 3 straight games, looking for 4 straight when the Penguins visit the Red Wings on Tuesday night.
