NHL Insider speculates about Tristan Jarry's fit with the Edmonton Oilers

The acquisition of Arturs Silovs makes a recent report from insider Jeff Marek linking Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers even more interesting.

As crazy as it sounds, before Sunday's trade to acquire Arturs Silovs, Tristan Jarry was poised to be the clear-cut starting goalie for the Penguins heading into the 2025-26 season.

After last year's debacle, nobody in their right mind could have imagined that would be the case; however, Jarry's late-season resurgence appeared to have changed things. It made Kyle Dubas comfortable enough to trade Alex Nedeljkovic to San Jose and provide Joel Blomqvist with an opportunity to earn the backup spot in training camp. So, unless something drastic were to happen in the next two months of the offseason, Jarry was projected to see a bulk of the starts next year.

That was flipped on its side on Sunday afternoon. While it might not be the biggest trade in the world, the Penguins made a sneaky great move to pick up Arturs Silovs from Vancouver. Silovs has been dominant in the AHL and is ready for more opportunity at the NHL level, which could impact one of Jarry or Blomqvist.

It feels quite unlikely that the Penguins would be able to find a suitor for Tristan Jarry at this point in time; however, insider Jeff Marek wondered if the Edmonton Oilers could look to take a flier on him as they continue to search for help in net. His idea was interesting to begin with and further raises eyebrows now that Silovs is in the mix.

NHL Rumour Report shared a post on X with Marek's comments.

As Marek mentions, the Oilers would definitely need the Penguins to retain some of Jarry's $5.375 million average annual salary, something that shouldn't be an issue for a team with over $13 million in available cap space.

Tristan Jarry has connections to Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Tristan Jarry in the past, and it does make some sense. Jarry spent his entire WHL career with the Edmonton Oil Kings, where he had plenty of success.

Given his wild inconsistencies, it is fair to question whether the 30-year-old would even be an upgrade on their current tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. However, you can't argue that when at his best, Jarry is a better option than either of the Oilers' netminders.

With a much more stable team on the ice in front of him, it could be worth the shot to see if Jarry can regain his two-time all-star form. While a trade won't be easy to pull off, there are reasons to believe Tristan Jarry could be a plausible target for the Edmonton Oilers.
