It was announced on Friday afternoon that new head coach Dan Muse has finalized his staff for the upcoming 2025-26 season and one of his assistants is quite the get for him. The staff consists of assistant coaches Nick Bonino, Todd Nelson, Rich Clune, assistant video coach Troy Paquette, Andy Chiodo remaining as goaltending coach and Madison Nikkel remaining as video coach.

Nelson is quite the get for the Penguins and he will be an excellent addition behind the bench of the black and gold.

Nelson will bring winning experience to a club that badly needs it

Over the last few seasons, it has been tough sledding for the Penguins as they have experienced a lot of losing and that falls a lot on coaching and a lot on the construction of the roster.

It was evident that it was way past time for Mike Sullivan to go and in came a fresh new voice and a new name that was not recycled in Dan Muse.

Muse made additions to his coaching staff and really snagged a diamond in the rough in Todd Nelson as he will help be really beneficial to helping the Penguins eventually get back to their winning ways.

Take a bow on this one Muse, what a hire.

The Penguins hiring developmental guys is a great step for the future

With the additions to the coaching staff, comes guys that do not have a ton of NHL experience coaching as Bonino and Clune were former players but do not have that much coaching experience yet.

But they will learn as the seasons go on because Muse and Nelson have been around the NHL and other leagues for a long time and definitely know what they are doing. But the guys that were hired are hired to help with the transition of the young guys coming to play for the team in the next wave.

The Penguins made the right hires for the future and hopefully it pays off for seasons to come.
