The Penguins revealed on Wednesday, September 18, that veteran forward Robby Fabbri has been signed to a PTO (Professional Try Out) that will allow him to participate in training camp with the team and participate in all preseason games with the club.

Fabbri, 29, was traded to the Anaheim Ducks from the Red Wings in the 2023-2024 off-season and played 44 games, notching only a mere 8 goals, 8 assists, 16 points in a heavily underwhelming season.

Fabbri brings 11 seasons of NHL experience with 442 games, 106 goals, 110 assists equalling to 216 points over those 442 games with 30 playoff games under his belt, adding a 2019 Stanley Cup with the Blues, both playoff seasons were with the St. Louis Blues. He has played for the Blues, Red Wings, Ducks and now technically the Penguins.

The former 2014, 21st overall pick has been given an opportunity to beat out some young talent and take advantage of some banged up forwards in Noel Acciari, Rutger McGroarty and Kevin Hayes.

Fabbri would most likely be a utility forward for when guys go down with injuries if he is signed to a one year deal and earns it coming out of camp. Having an option like Fabbri will allow for some of the young guys to learn from a forward who has gone all the way and has previous winning pedigree.

If Fabbri would to be placed anywhere in the lineup, he most likely would be on that fourth line with Blake Lizotte and Justin Brazeau on the left wing side. Fabbri last weighed in at 5'11, 185 lbs, which once again lines up with Dan Muse's vision of building a strong but fast Penguins hockey team.

The question will be mainly, can Robby Fabbri bring enough effort and value in the eyes of Kyle Dubas and Dan Muse to earn a one year deal on this Penguins roster.
