With the Hershey Bears finally being eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs, it gives Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas a chance to talk to Todd Nelson who coaches Hershey. He should be at the top of the list of candidates who need to be seriously considered for the head coach job in Pittsburgh.

Nelson was actually a draft pick for the Penguins back in 1989 and all the dude knows how to do is win. Before his elimination by the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday, he won the last 2 Calder Cups in the previous 2 seasons of coaching Hershey.

The Penguins need someone like him behind their bench.

Nelson or Mitch Love need to be the top 2 guys considered for the job

It has been known for a long time now that the Penguins have needed fresh blood and fresh ideas when it comes to someone leading the team. Mike Sullivan was way past his due date in Pittsburgh and his voice and message was getting stale.

It seemed like the players would tune out Sullivan as each year would go on and that they really wanted someone new leading the team.

Regardless of if its Nelson or Love, the Penguins would be in good hands and a new voice especially since both coaches know how to win.

Dubas could make a good decision choosing either candidate

It was already mentioned by Elliotte Friedman and others like David Pagnotta, that Love is a candidate at the top of the Penguins list to become the next head coach.

But if Dubas decided to choose Nelson, Penguins fans would be ecstatic with that choice as well. Fans do not want the team to go after anyone that is recycled that is still out there like a Tortorella.

Fans want someone new, and Love or Nelson would be amazing candidates and would really help the Penguins get back to where they want to be.
