The Penguins have had quite the injury bug of late and forced them to make a move that they did not want to make this early in the season. According to head coach Dan Muse, goaltender Tristan Jarry was hurt in the recent loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.
And with Jarry being hurt and having to be placed on the injured list, it forced general manager Kyle Dubas to recall future superstar goaltender Sergei Murashov from the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. Murashov is not neccesarily ready for the NHL yet, but the Penguins had no choice.
But Penguins fans will likely have to wait to see Murashov make his debut till this upcoming weekend. The Penguins have a tilt with the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin tonight, and then a back-to-back on Saturday at the New Jersey Devils and then a home game Sunday vs the Los Angeles Kings.
Murashov will likely play the Sunday game vs LA as Arturs Silovs is likely to draw most of the starts in goal while Tristan Jarry is on the shelf. But depending on performance, Murashov could always draw more starts than Silovs, that is to be determined in games in the future.
But Penguins fans have been waiting a while to see Murashov play a regular season game and get his shot. And when the Penguins announce that Murashov will likely start the second game of the back-to-back, there might be more tickets sold as it is very anticipated.
The Penguins have not seen a goaltending prospect quite like Murashov, since the Marc-Andre Fleury days way back when. The Penguins and their fans know that Murashov is going to be a special player for them and he got a call-up way sooner than expected due to injuries.
Murashov is going to be a star in the NHL for years to come. And Penguins fans getting to see him sooner than expected is an exciting reality.
