It is not often when a young defenseman that has yet to reach his potential but just needs a change of scenery becomes available. But that is the case for Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nic Hague. It is rumored that he is out there on the trade market and Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas should be all over it.

Fans have been back and forth on if they want him to be acquired by Dubas or not as they have said the team is not contending and Hague would help the team tremendously on the blue line. Dubas has a plan and acquiring someone of Hague's caliber is something that would help his plan.

The Penguins would be cooking if they were to acquire Hague

Dubas and the fans know that the defense needs a major overhaul after what they have watched the last few seasons. The last few seasons have been quite an awful sight as the defense was not great and Dubas knows he needs to find a way to fix it.

He knows that he needs to find guys that are stay at home defensemen and defenders that actually push guys out of the blue paint and know how to clear the puck out.

Hague is a perfect example of that and if you pair him with Harrison Brunicke and Owen Pickering and eventually Finn Harding and Emil Peniniemi, the Penguins are loaded on defense in the future.

The price to acquire Hague should not be that high

Hague is a restricted free agent for the Golden Knights which means he can be offersheeted and the Knights can choose to match or not, or his rights can be traded and then his new team can give him an extension.

Dubas has said that he prefers not to go the offer sheet route and he prefers to work things out in a trade and if the Penguins were to acquire Hague, look for this route and then an extension to follow.

The price to acquire his rights should not be that high and the Penguins do have a ton of picks to deal from in this draft that they can use to get the deal done with the Knights.
