The Pittsburgh Penguins are retaining one of their own free agents. According to several insiders around the NHL, Kyle Dubas has re-signed forward Connor Dewar to a one-year contract.
Dewar will earn $1.1 million in average annual salary, a very fair deal for both sides. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to break the news on X, and the Penguins just confirmed the details themselves.

Dewar, who just recently turned 26 years old, was a very pleasant surprise after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He produced seven points (four goals, three assists) in 17 games as a Penguin, which came on the heels of a snakebitten first 31 games to start the season in Toronto, where he managed just three points (three assists).
He should assume a bottom-six, and more preferably a fourth-line role heading into next season as a physical, hard-working player who's shown to have some scoring touch. He and Blake Lizzotte particularly seemed to work well together and will look to build on that chemistry in 2025-26.
While the goals were few and far between during his brief stint as a Maple Leaf, in Pittsburgh, Dewar demonstrated more of what we saw at the beginning of his career with the Minnesota Wild. He racked up 18 (six goals, 12 assists) and 14 points (10 goals, four assists), respectively, in his first two full NHL seasons, and the Pens hope to have this version of him moving forward.
The fan base seems to be all on board with the re-signing of Connor Dewar, and it's hard to argue against it. Let us know what you think of the deal on Twitter/X @PensLabyrinthFS. Don't hesitate to share what else you believe the Penguins should do today and in the weeks to come.
