The Penguins today have settled on a two year deal with RFA forward Nicholas Robertson at an AAV of $3,250,000 and will keep the 24 year old an RFA at the end of his contract in 2028.
Nick Robertson was set to have an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 28 which would be the beginning of contract negotiations with an arbitrator as a middle man between both parties to settle on a contract.
Robertson's contract has no trade protection which can allow him to be moved throughout the two years of his deal if the team so desires.
N. Robertson notched 32 points last season while playing less than 12:30 TOI a game in the 2025-26 season while also playing on a very bottom feeder Maple Leafs squad. The opportunity for Robertson to play under a new system like Dan Muse who feeds off young talent and reclamation projects could do wonders for Nick's game and his point production could see a jump with coaches who want him to thrive in situations.
Robertson's shooting ability is hands down one of his stronger abilities and can be lethal in certain spots on the ice that he puts himself into. If Dan Muse could harness the rest of Robertson's game, there is undying potential that could come into the fold.
At the start of the season most likely will see Nick start with Ben Kindel and Andrei Kuzmenko which can have the potential to be a very reliable third line depending on if Robertson and Kuzmenko pan out the way Kyle Dubas and Dan Muse expect them to do so.
Robertson's projected contract according to AFP Analytics was two years at just over $3,000,000 per season. In terms of what he was signed too, it was pretty bang on by Kyle Dubas and Co. There is low risk, high potential with this and could pan out for both sides.
