Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Bill Zonnon is starting to make waves within the organization due to his playoff performance thus far. Although it is too soon to see his full potential, he is making a good showing in the 2026 American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup playoffs.

Penguins' Zonnon has always had skill

Zonnon, a 6-foot-2 and 187-pound forward, has never been the biggest player on the ice, but he has always had a big game and loads of confidence. he has not been shy about putting up points and he seems to be the most productive in the most crucial situations. His offensive awareness is off the charts and his knowledge of his teammates makes him aware of where they are at all times.

Zonnon was drafted in the 2022 QMJHL (Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League) Draft sixth overall by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In three seasons with the organization , he posted 62 goals and 118 assists for 180 points in 195 games. After a short stay, he was traded on June 5, 2025, to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. In exchange, the Huskies received Samuel Rheault and three first-round draft picks. Zonnon scored 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points in 35 games with the Armada.he would play four seasons in the QMJHL, and he would end up with more assists than goals, showcasing his playmaking skills. During his entire QMJHL career, he would post 76 goals and 150 assists for 226 points in 230 games.

Zonnon make his pro debut in the playoffs

After playing junior hockey, Zonnon would be drafted by the Penguins 22nd overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. He quickly became a prospect that the Pittsburgh organization was high on and they saw big things for him, he was a physical forward with second-line potential. He was a left-shot playing on the right wing, perfect for one-timers and to showcase more creativity. He wins board battles and is a net front presence but the knocks against him are his skating and lack of defense.

He sustained injuries on two seperate occasions during last season. he would miss the entire Penguins training camp because of a lower-body injury. After a quick stop with the Armada, he would suffer yet another injury. This time it would be classified as an indusclosed injury that occured with a big collision during a November 2025 game and this would keep him out of action for four to six weeks.

He showed enough to the Penguins brass to sign him to an amateur tryout (ATO) with the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins, the AHL affiliate of the Penguins. He would make his pro debut in a tough spot for a young player, in the playoffs. However, this time of year has not affected his play one bit. In five playoff games, Zonnon has three goals and one assist for four points, while not looking out of place. While it is still extremely early in his young career, he is giving the Penguins fans a glimpse of what they can expect from him. His future is bright and he could be a critical piece in the Penguins quest for another Stanley Cup. Going forward he looks to be cementing himself in the plan for Pittsburgh in the coming years.
