It's been a long offseason for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and many fans, including myself, are patiently waiting for news on Sidney Crosby's contract extension.

As of now, both the Penguins and Crosby have expressed their desire to make this extension happen, ensuring Crosby remains a Penguin for the rest of his career.

Rob Rossi of The Athletic provided a brief update on the situation, saying, “All parties were comfortable enough with where the contract negotiations stood." This prolonged wait has caused some concern among fans, but it's clear that both sides are eager to finalize the deal.

Crosby has been the face of the Penguins for nearly two decades, and his performance last season shows he’s still at the top of his game. Playing all 82 games, he notched 42 goals and 52 assists, demonstrating his ongoing value to the team.

Some speculate about the possibility of an announcement on August 7th (8/7). This date holds significance as a nod to Crosby’s jersey number, 87. While this might sound like a conspiracy theory, it would be a fitting tribute to a player who has given so much to the franchise.

Beyond just numbers and dates, this extension is about legacy. Crosby has repeatedly expressed his desire to retire as a Penguin, joining the ranks of other sports legends who spent their entire careers with one team. For the Penguins, retaining Crosby is about honoring that legacy and what he means to Pittsburgh.

The anticipation and speculation only add to the excitement of this offseason. Whether or not the August 7th theory holds, one thing is clear: the Penguins and their fans are united in hoping Sidney Crosby will remain in Pittsburgh for the years to come.
