Sidney Crosby was a major talking point for hockey fans this weekend on X. Through no fault of his own, the Penguins captain was the subject of trade rumors and speculation, particularly on Friday night as Round 1 of the NHL draft was taking place.
It all started with a post that longtime NHL enforcer George Laraque shared on X.
I’m hearing there’s a very good chance that Crosby will play somewhere else…

ESPN insider Kevin Weekes then added fuel to the fire, posting a cryptic photo of the Denver, Colorado, skyline. This had many wondering whether the Avalanche were about to land Crosby, having just cleared $7.75 million in cap space by trading Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood to the Blue Jackets earlier in the day.
To no surprise of Penguins fans and those who pay attention to the team, the rumors were false, and nothing was happening. Not only did Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, shut them down, but so did his good friend and Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon. It's pretty safe to say they are more trustworthy than whoever is spreading the original stories.
While the rest of the hockey world gets a buzz from the thought of Sidney Crosby being on the move, it shouldn't concern Penguins fans; we all know how Sid feels.
The trade rumors were news to Kyle Dubas
As the trade rumors circulated on social media, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins front office were busy making three first-round selections.
When addressing everyone following the conclusion of Round 1, he seemed surprised to even be asked about the noise around his captain. Team reporter Wes Crosby shared Dubas' response on the matter on X.
Kyle Dubas on Sidney Crosby speculation: "There's no change at all to anything from our perspective. Everything that we're doing is about bringing the team back to being a contending team and our hope is to sure do that while Sid is a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins."

You know the rumors aren't true when the general manager of the team himself is taken aback by a question about them.
We thought this song and dance would be over when Sid signed a two-year extension, making his patented $8.7 million back in September. But of course, social media is always looking to stir the pot. That aside, let's remember that Crosby's new deal hasn't even kicked in yet.
He's not going anywhere, folks.
