Super Mario looks to save Penguins from Fenway Sports

It was reported a while ago that Fenway Sports Group who own the Penguins, was looking to sell a minority stake in the club. Fast forward and it looks like a familiar friend is looking to repurchase the team from FSG.

It is not often when a major sports team like the Pittsburgh Penguins get put up for sale, but seems that conversation is happening again. NHL insider Pierre Lebrun made a tweet Wednesday afternoon stating that Mario Lemieux and his ownership group who owned the Penguins before selling them to Fenway Sports Group are interested in repurchasing them.

It was put out there not long ago that Fenway Sports Group was looking to sell only a minority stake in the club, but Lemieux and friends seem to have other ideas of wanting full stake again if FSG is willing to sell full stake.

Penguins fans would go ecstatic if Lemieux was to repurchase the team

It is one thing to have a group based out of Boston own the Penguins, but it is another to have a legend that played for the team, own them. He has before, and if he is able to get the team back and get full ownership, look for fans to lose their minds.

The team and the front office seemed to run way better in general when Lemieux and Morehouse and them owned the team in the past.

There is nothing like a franchise legend buying the team back and being there for most of the games if not every home game, cheering the team on.

Expect PPG Paints Arena to explode if this happens again.

Fenway Sports Group's love for Sullivan was too much

For a while it seemed like the Penguins needed a coaching change really badly and that they were not allowing general manager Kyle Dubas to make his own decisions.

It was known that FSG really liked coach Sullivan and wanted to keep him around for as long as possible before Dubas canned him this past summer.

The ownership group did not seem to care about winning as Sullivan's time with the club was coming to an end and the team needed a change. Dubas did the right thing and now with FSG seeming to want to sell the team again, good riddance.
