The New Philosophy of the Pittsburgh Penguins has arrived

What is happening with this Penguins hockey team is fun and exciting and it is very clear why.

From the Penguins being able to play a full 60 minutes and finding ways to win hockey games so far this season that they didn't win last season. To the fact they look like a sound hockey team that has the capability of hanging with team's like Florida, Los Angeles, Vancouver and both New York teams, show's what is happening right now is working and they very well could have more success.

Mike Sullivan ran a system that just didn't work and align with the future of these young and rebuilding/re-tooling Pittsburgh Penguins. Kyle Dubas made the proper and long overdue adjustments that has led to a brand new voice and allowed Head Coach Dan Muse to bring a new sound aspect to Pittsburgh and bring in Todd Nelson, Nick Bonino, Rich Clune and Mike Stothers.

Dan Muse has brought in and created a clear new philosophy that has made this projected to be very bad hockey team, to look like an absolute wagon of a hockey team just under ten games in. Now, not getting ahead at all despite the fact there is still 85 - 90 percent of the schedule to go, however the current sample size has been better in under ten games then we have seen in the last five years with Mike Sullivan.

The baby pens in Wilkes have reaped the rewards of a strong start as well, Head Coach Kirk MacDonald has the team firing at all aspects of the ice which has led them to a strong 6-0-0 start. Danton Heinen leads the entire American Hockey League in points with three goals, eight assists which is 11 points, followed by Ville Koivunen with three goals and six assists in a three way tie for second in points scoring in the AHL.

Dan Muse has had his players clearly bought into his system and his teaching's from Sidney Crosby all the way down to Connor Dewar. His deployment of players like Caleb Jones and Connor Clifton can be questionable at times, but he knows how to deploy his line's in the right situation and his ability to adjust in the fly has been impressive. His trust in the young bucks is so high, Harrison Brunicke, Benjamin Kindel, Filip Hallander have been so good despite the fact he is load managing both Brunicke and Kindel.

Coming back to the Philosophy aspect of this team, Coach Muse and co. has shown a rebirth Washington like experience that they experienced last season is possible where who knows if we could see this team push this year. If the team can continue to consistently play like this with the correct personnel on the ice and consistent goaltending, they can compete with anyone.

Ideally keeping Benjamin Kindel and Harrison Brunicke up with the team is a no brainer and they have proven going to the Juniors is pointless and does nothing for their development. The other unfortunate side of the coin is that Kevin Hayes is still a player with a looming return in November and they still have to fit Rutger McGroarty and even Ville Koivunen into this lineup. Kyle Dubas has to have a serious conversation of who has to go in order to fulfill the youth movement as promised and make room for the kids.

There is only three outcomes to come this season for the Penguins.

1. The winning ways continue

If the Penguins continue their winning ways and put a consistent season on the board, they can very well compete for a playoff spot.

2. The Penguins falter and fail

This is what every analyst and writer and hockey fan projected the Penguins to be this year, in the Gavin McKenna race and on track to compete in those sweepstakes.

3. They sit in the middle of the pack

The penguins could very well have a medicore season and sit just outside of a playoff spot and get decent positioning in the draft.

Let's see how the next stretch goes to re-evaluate where the penguins are at and who is still on the team and who might not be. It's up to the team to show the hockey world what they are truly made of and who they really are.
