The only thing worth savoring the rest of the year is Crosby breaking this record

Sidney Crosby only needs 1 more point out of the remaining 9 games in the Penguins season to break Wayne Gretzky's record of 19 straight seasons of a point-per-game season which it would be Crosby's 20th.

Yes you are either a fan that was rooting for the Penguins to somehow leap over several teams for the second wildcard spot or you were a fan rooting for a top 5 draft pick. Both of those are really nice things to root for, but Penguins fans should be hooting and hollering for this specific record that Crosby will likely break.

Fans have seen Crosby go on a tear since coming back from his injury and although not propelling the Penguins back into a playoff spot, he is one singular point shy of breaking Gretzky's record of a point-per-game season with 19. Fans should be rooting for this, and it might come in Thursday's matchup against the Buffalo Sabres.

Crosby sits at 29 goals and 56 assists in 61 games against the Sabres, I'd say that is pretty good odds that he is going to get that last point he needs on Thursday.

Penguins fans are so lucky to have had Crosby around for 20 seasons

It has been said all season long that Crosby is one-of-one and a seriously special player. Fans may never see one like Crosby ever again.

He is still putting up insane numbers even at the old age of 37 and looks like he has not lost a step at all. He is still this superstar that Penguins fans watched in his prime and it is a glorious sight to still have him around in Pittsburgh.

There will never be a Crosby ever again, sure there might be players of his caliber like a McDavid but there is only one Crosby and Penguins fans have been treated to excellence for 20 years.

Once Crosby hits the record, Penguins fans will cherish it and seriously miss him once he hangs up the skates, which he might not do for another 3-5 seasons. He might even be around for a season or two when the Penguins are good again.

Crosby and Ovechkin likely breaking Gretzky records in the same season is legendary

Crosby is likely going to break the point-per-game season record very soon, but Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals is so close to breaking another Gretzky record.

Ovechkin is 6 goals away from passing Gretzky all-time for goals scored in his career as he scored number 889 last night in a loss at the Winnipeg Jets. He sits at 35 goals this season and it is amazing what he is still doing right around Crosby's age.

These two have been going at it year after year in the Metropolitan Division and it is going to be a welcome sight and a treat when they break these individual records before the season comes to a close in April.
