The Penguins really got going in this one to begin the game, they led 5-1 in the middle of the second period, almost blew it, but hung on for the 5-4 victory on the night before Thanksgiving.
The win was thanks in large part to winger Bryan Rust who potted two goals and felt great about himself and his team's chances to secure the much needed 2 points in this one. Goalie Tristan Jarry decided to almost give the Canucks a point in this one but stood tall in the final minute.
Bryan Rust looks like himself again
For a while with all the changing around on different lines and having to adjust each time, it looked like Rust was not himself. It looked like he was trying to force things and trying to force plays that were not there. But that was not the case here on Wednesday night.
Rust scored two absolute beauty of goals, one that was a super sweet pass from the captain Sidney Crosby, and another that was an absolute snipe that Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs would like to have back.
Watching this goal, most fans would have told Crosby to shoot the puck and be selfish, but he was able to feed a perfect pass to Rust for the tap-in and his first goal of the night.
And watching this second one, ideally, Silovs should have this and seriously wants this one back, but what a snipe by Rust and ended up being the game winner in this one actually.
The Penguins have a back-to-back coming up and need to get back to winning and sweep both games
Come Friday and Saturday, the Penguins have to travel to Boston to take on the Bruins, and then go back home to take on the Calgary Flames.
The Penguins always have trouble with playing the Bruins, especially on the road, but the Bruins this season are not nearly as good as year's past. The Penguins need to win this one and beat the Flames who also are not that good, and come away with 4/4 points on this little swing coming up.
