The Penguins need to finally cut bait with this veteran defenseman

The Penguins currently have Matt Dumba in the AHL, and it might be time to just terminate his contract and move on.

The Penguins have had veteran defenseman Matt Dumba playing top pairing minutes in Wilkes-Barre Scranton for the last couple of months, but it seriously has not been working. Every time he is out there, he is taking a dumb penalty or letting players go right by him or not even trying.

This kind of effort by Dumba should get his contract terminated by Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas. There is absolutely no reason why he needs to be trotted out there for the AHL team night in and night out if he is not going to contribute anything of value.

He is just wasting a roster spot for somebody down there that actually deserves it. He is causing way more harm than he is doing any good. There is a reason that he is not with the Penguins as of the current moment because he can't hang around.

It says something with the defensemen that are currently in Pittsburgh that Connor Clifton and Jack St. Ivany are ahead of Dumba. Every game that Wilkes-Barre plays, fans on Twitter call for Dumba to be benched or just be scratched in general.

There seems to be a common denominator that if fans are complaining night in and night out that head coach Kirk McDonald is playing Dumba, something is wrong. The dude needs to be sitting in the press box on a nightly basis or have his contract terminated in general and be done with this experiment.

The experiment was fine while it lasted because it was one of those things where general manager Kyle Dubas took him because he got an extra draft pick in return. But now, it is time to seriously be done with all of this and see if Dumba will agree to a mutual contract termination.

The Penguins do not need to keep playing him in Wilkes-Barre anymore. Let him out of his contract and see if a different team will pick him up and give him a chance because he is out of those in Pittsburgh.
