In Sunday's win against the Ottawa Senators, Tristan Jarry posted his first shutout of the year stopping all 31 shots that came his way. But before that in games against the Buffalo Sabres he gave up 4 goals on 12 shots and then against the Tampa Bay Lightning he gave up 4 goals on 7 shots.
It is quite a head scratcher as to why he can post a shutout but also look really bad in other games. I mean he was sent down to Wilkes-Barre once already this season because he was not playing good at all, this one deserves to be looked at and studied extensively.
One game a few seasons ago was the game that truly got Jarry rattled
Everyone remembers the 2020 playoff series against the New York Islanders and how chaotic Game 5 at home was.
Everyone remembers the turnover that Jarry made in his own zone in double overtime to Josh Bailey and it buried it moments later. That has truly been the moment that has rattled Jarry the last couple seasons and is the reason that he has not been able to recover from all the bad starts over the years.
That turnover likely still lives in his head and Penguins fans have not seen a consistent Jarry since then and deserve way better.
These few good games and then straight back to bad games is so frustrating
Over the past few years, especially this recent season, Jarry has found a hot streak and beat some good teams and then he falls back down to earth.
In his recent hot streak he beat the Wild, the Golden Knights, the Blues, and the Devils but then he lost to the Islanders and Panthers before having awful games against Buffalo and Tampa Bay.
Penguins fans expect this every time Jarry gets told that he is going to start games and it is very easy to assume the worst. Penguins fans deserve way better than Jarry as their starting goaltender and only hope that Kyle Dubas agrees.
