While there are great new piece’s on our site, such as our latest assessment of where Eric Fehr fits within the Pens’ top-nine, there are also countless other writers covering this team and providing great opinion and analysis.

The articles below are a mixture of large media outlets and blogs that will provide your hockey fix as we near the end of August.

Crosby’s Off-Ice Life Hardly Reflects That of a SuperstarJason Mackey, TribLive.Com
I don’t think it’s any secret that Sidney Crosby is indeed one of the good guys. In a day and age where professional

athletes are becoming harder to call role models, Sid continues to separate himself in that regard just as he does with his play on the ice. This is a great look into his life in the offseason.

Penguins’ Maatta Must Step Up in Latest Comeback – Lee C.J. Sobotka, TheHockeyWriters.Com
I looked at three Pittsburgh Penguins that will be pressured to perform in 2015-16 on Friday, and Olli Maatta was on that list. The youngster that turned 22-years old yesterday is going to be launched into a top defensive role and be expected to consume minutes that Paul Martin has left behind. I have faith that Maatta can do it, but it certainly isn’t going to be an easy task.

The NHL Top-Ten Defensemen in the NHL: Part Two – James Tanner, TheHockeyWriters.Com
While not directly related to the Pittsburgh Penguins, I was intrigued to see a list of top NHL defensemen that didn’t include Kris Letang. Of course, we all know that Letang has injury concerns, but it’s tough to argue that he’s quite possibly the most dynamic offensive defensemen in the league with Erik Karlsson right there with him. Letang was having a great season before getting injured on a hit from Shane Doan and missing the remainder of 2014-15. Is that injury enough to drop him out of the top-ten?

Top 10 Penguins Prospects for 2015-16Corey Pronman, Insider.Espn.Go.com
This article from Corey Pronman at ESPN requires an Insider subscription to view it, but to give you some perspective on his list, it shakes out as follows…

1. Daniel Sprong, RW
2. Sergei Plotnikov, LW
3. Matt Murray, G
4. Brian Dumoulin, D
5. Scott Wilson, LW
6. Adam Clendening, D
7. Oskar Sundqvist, C
8. Tristan Jarry, G
9. Jake Guentzel, C
10. Dominik Simon, LW

I personally view Dominik Simon as a dark horse in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization due to his strong development camp. I don’t see him as an NHL player for at least two seasons, but he could probably be ranked higher than Tristan Jarry and Jake Guentzel on this list. I also found it very interesting that Scott Wilson was ranked higher than Oskar Sundqvist.
