Sergei Bobrovsky

Bobrovsky had a rough season from a statistical standpoint and has found himself ranked 12th among goaltenders for the upcoming season. But, sometimes a player’s stats from the prior season aren’t very indicative of what’s to come.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, similar to the Pittsburgh Penguins, were a team plagued by injuries. Consider the chart below via ManGamesLost.Com.

The injuries that struck the Jackets were impactful and wide-spread. Despite their depth, they were unable to overcome that multitude of injuries and sustain success throughout the season. Bobrovsky was directly impacted by that. Columbus got healthy and put together an impressive stretch late in the season. Throughout March and April Bobrovsky saw his save percentage jump to .927 and .928 respectively. That time frame is a good indication of what to expect when the Jackets are healthy.

You also have to consider that Columbus’ defense is very suspect. However, I personally rank Bobrovsky higher than names like Corey Crawford after Chicago’s trying offseason, Devan Dubnyk and the fact that we aren’t sure if he can sustain last season’s level of play and Cory Schneider since the Devils are unlikely to post many wins next season.
