The Pittsburgh Penguins will play their third game in three nights when they take on the Detroit Red Wings at Consol Energy Center tonight. The teams met just six days ago with the Wings dominating the Pens in a 6-1 victory.

While the Pens already started making roster cuts today, this is a big game for multiple players with what is likely their last chance at making an impression. Derrick Pouliot is one of those players and he looks to be paired with Ben Lovejoy for tonight’s contest.

The next 24-48 hours should be very busy with waivers in Pittsburgh. It’s time for the tough decisions to be made. Who stood out enough to make the NHL roster? Who still has a chance at cracking the lineup with solid performances over the next two games?

Pittsburgh Penguins Lineup and Notes

The original lineup released for tonight’s matchup is as follows…

However, a few changes were made to that roster. Most notably, Marc-Andre Fleury will backup Jeff Zatkoff tonight. The lines, according to the morning skate, are listed below.

Important Notes

Position battles are abound at this point. Questions regarding how the left side of this forward lineup still remain. Also, how will Pouliot, Scuderi and Gonchar perform? Will Pouliot remain in the NHL or go back to Wilkes-Barre Scranton?

Preseason can be boring for the average spectator. But, at this point in the preseason, you have to enjoy watching as the lineup shakes out before our eyes. I look for the Pens to essentially dress their opening night starting lineup on Friday in Carolina, so tonight’s performances will have a huge impact on where these guys end up.
